HistoryBuilt as a double-ender in 1864, Tallapoosa was thoroughly rebuilt in the mid-1870¹s, losing one rudder and gaining a substantial and well-appointed cabin. Sunk in a collision in 1884, she was raised and put back in service until 1892, when she was condemned and sold.
The ModelOriginal ship model from museum plans, mixed media with basswood hull, pear and apple cabins and holly decking. Paint and natural finish with subtle weathering. Completed in 1993. Name on plate attached to cradle. Scale 1/8² = 1¹0². Length 32².
The ArtistMr. Nagel has been building ship models for over thirty years, specializing in unusual and rarely modeled vessels. His ship models can be found in museums and collections around the world, and may be seen in public buildings in San Francisco, including One California Place. He also creates abstract sculpture working in marble and casting in stainless steel and bronze.
