HistoryBuilt in 1899 by Wm Denny & Bros in Dumbarton, Scotland, Sir Walter Scott is the only surviving screw steamer in Scotland. Powered by her original triple expansion steam engine, she still operates tourist cruises on Loch Katrine.
The ModelOriginal ship model from owner?s plans, plank on frame of ply and basswood, with cherry deck and rails, brass railings. Fittings primarily by hand of artist. Preiser figures in period costume painted by the artist. Scale 1:32. LOA 44?". Glass display case.
The ArtistMilitary pilot and clinical psychologist Gordon Vandyke has done serious ship modeling since 1975. His eclectic interests include early modern vessels of historic interest, and his ship models are alive with personal detail. He is now living in Maple, Ontario and volunteers at an aviation museum where he engages in restorative work.
