| History | Built in 1926 for the Union Steamship Co. of New Zealand. In 1937, outward bound from Melbourne with a cargo of lumber, she collided with Caradale off Gellibrand Light, Hobsons Bay, sinking in three minutes with a loss of five crewmen. |
| The Model | Original ship model from museum plans, mixed media with basswood hull, pear and apple cabins and holly decking. Paint and natural finish with subtle weathering. Completed in 2002. Name on plate attached to cradle. Scale 1/8² = 1¹0². Length 26². |
| The Artist | Mr. Nagel has been building ship models for over thirty years, specializing in unusual and rarely modeled vessels. His ship models can be found in museums and collections around the world, and may be seen in public buildings in San Francisco, including One California Place. He also creates abstract sculpture working in marble and casting in stainless steel and bronze. |
