History Built in 1968 in Hamburg, this twin screw turbine vessel was the first important German luxury liner after the war. Sold to Russian owners in 1973 and still serves tourist trade under German management. Chartered by United Artists in 1974 to make the film “Juggernaut”; also served as a summit site for President Bush and Chairman Gorbatchev.
The ModelImmaculate original 1:100 scale ship model from builder’s plans and thorough research as well as personal observation of the ship. Mixed media including plywood, styrene, plexiglass, brass, aluminum, copper, and basswood. All components and fittings by hand of the modeler. Dimensions: L 78”. W 10 ¾” H 20”. Signed provenance enclosed in hull, builder’s brass plaque affixed to base. Case available on order.
The ArtistMr. Weinschenk is a New Yorker and lifelong ship modeler specializing in ocean liners. He has published articles and exhibited his ship models at the South Street Seaport museum.
