HistoryBuilt for the Royal Navy as the Dainty Class Tug Frisky at Aberdeen in 1918. She was used to move battleships in Scapa Flow until sold in 1921, and was later purchased by the Foundation Company of Canada and renamed. She had a spectacular career in Halifax as a salvage vessel rescuing disabled ships from the stormy North Atlantic.
The ModelOriginal ship model from plans by David Walker of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, N.S. Scale ¼” = 1 ft. Length 43”. Hull is basswood planking on steam bent ash frames. Fully operational, powered by a twin cylinder oscillating steam engine using butane fuel, radio controlled.
The ArtistMr. Payne is a retired maintenance supervisor who has been building ship models for 15 years, specializing in detailed live steam ship models. As a craftsman he has mastered the wide variety of woodworking and machining techniques necessary to build these ship models in his well-equipped basement workshop.
