HistoryTypical inter-island passenger and cargo steamer built for service between the Orkney Islands and Scotland. In 1940 she was requisitioned by the Admiralty to serve on the North Island supply run. Returned to commercial service in 1946. Retired and scrapped in 1969.
The ModelOriginal ship model from museum plans, mixed media with basswood hull, pear and apple cabins and holly decking. Paint and natural finish with subtle weathering. Name on plate attached to cradle. Scale 3/16² = 1¹0². Length 22 1/2².
The ArtistMr. Nagel has been building ship models for over thirty years, specializing in unusual and rarely modeled vessels. His ship models can be found in museums and collections around the world, and may be seen in public buildings in San Francisco, including One California Place. He also creates abstract sculpture working in marble and casting in stainless steel and bronze.
