HistoryPleasure and racing yacht designed by Norwegian shipbuilder John Ankar and built in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1928. Her sailing qualities have made these yachts popular, especially in Europe. In 1948, the Dragen was made an Olympic class of racing yacht.
The ModelHighly modified commercial ship model design by Billings. Cherry deck, cabin and cockpit, with improved stainless steel rigging and fittings, and working brass turnbuckles. Length 30², height 38 ?². Glass display case.
The ArtistMilitary pilot and clinical psychologist Gordon Vandyke has built ship models since 1975. His eclectic interests include early modern vessels of historic interest, and his ship models are alive with personal detail. He is now living in Maple, Ontario and volunteers at an aviation museum where he engages in restorative work.
