HistoryCanadian Navy coastal tug based on British Norton Class tugs, Clifton was launched 31 July 1944 for military use in WW II. She served under civilian authority into the 1960s.
The ModelOriginal ship model built in 1995 from Vanguard plans, plank on frame hull construction of ply and basswood covered with fiberglass matting. Most fittings by hand of builder. Fully operational with radio control. Scale 1:32. Model LOA 43³. Glass display case.
The ArtistMilitary pilot and clinical psychologist Gordon Vandyke has built ship models since 1975. His eclectic interests include early modern vessels of historic interest, and his ship models are alive with personal detail. He is now living in Maple, Ontario and volunteers at an aviation museum where he engages in restorative work.
