| History | Typical coasting barge used on the east coast of England for two centuries, with a spritsail fore-and-aft rig easily handled by a small crew. Flat-bottomed with lee boards, examples of these colorful barges can still be seen in English port museums. |

| The Artist | Capt. Hutchins began his naval career at age 14 and continued as master after his emigration to Canada. A long-time ship modeler, he specializes in English barges and sailing vessels of historic interest. His colorful ship models are displayed in several Halifax tourist locations. |
