| History | Based on classic Swedish skerry cruisers, the Vega was built of fiberglass with stainless steel rigging to withstand ocean voyages. Equipped with an inboard engine. The vessel modeled was owned by the artist for 25 years. |
| The Model | Original ship model built in 1990 from offset drawings in the owner¹s manual. Hull is bass planking on ply frames covered with fiberglass matting. Mast and booms are aluminum with rigging and deck fittings of stainless steel, including working blocks and turnbuckles. Fully equipped for sail or power operation. Scale 1:7.5. LOA 43². | The Artist | Military pilot and clinical psychologist Gordon Vandyke has built ship models since 1975. His eclectic interests include early modern vessels of historic interest, and his ship model style is alive with personal detail. He is now living in Maple, Ontario and volunteers at an aviation museum where he engages in restorative work. |
